The Dangers of Keyboard Cleaners

The recent increase in the use of inhalants is alarming. There are so many products available today that the use of illegal substances has become secondary to the products found in many household cabinets. The pressurized air intended to blow dust from the keyboard is one of the most popular among ‘huffers’.
How it is done
The practice of inhaling ‘canned air’ has become increasingly popular among youth. For a relatively small price, a can is able to provide a ‘high’ or a ‘rush’ to several people. The product is readily available at most any retailer in America, and until recently, there were no legal restrictions regarding the purchase or use. This makes it a simple, somewhat inexpensive means by which to get high. Many teens consider the practice as acceptable and safe because it is not an illegal substance.
A deadly party game
The dangers, however, are anything but safe. The air is inhaled orally via a slender straw in quick, short bursts into the airway. This causes a short and intense, euphoric high. Users describe feeling “lightheaded and dizzy, instantly euphoric and happy.” The few minutes of euphoria can result in severe kidney, liver and permanent brain damage or even death
With reported use increasing in younger groups, manufacturers and retailers have taken preventative steps in preventing the abuse of the cleaner. Age restrictions, identification requirements and securing the product in locked cases are a few of the measures taken to prevent or deter the abuse of the product.
